LIVE JAZZ: The Brubecks play Brubeck at Worthing Assembly Hall

“With music in their blood, four of Dave Brubeck’s five children are professional musicians and, like the Dankworth family, all have different areas of interest but unite for special occasions,” said show spokeswoman Gemma Nethersole.

Hide AdDarius, the eldest Brubeck son, is a jazz pianist, composer, teacher and band-leader whose concerts at festivals and clubs around the UK have sold out to great acclaim.
Chris is a multi-instrumentalist and award-winning composer who tours the world performing trombone concertos and creating innovative symphonic pieces.
He is also an accomplished electric bassist who excels in jazz, rock and folk. Dan is a renowned, Grammy-nominated
percussionist, known for his drum solos.
In the 70s and 80s the three brothers recorded and toured worldwide with their father and now, in their father’s 90th year, they are touring in celebration of the music that made him an icon of modern jazz.

Hide AdThe Brubecks will be joined by special guest British saxophonist Dave O’Higgins to play some famous Brubeck originals, as well as tunes associated with Dave and a few of their own compositions.
For more than 50 years, Dave Brubeck has been a giant of American jazz, earning respect from millions of fans for his improvisation and rhythms.
He changed the landscape of jazz in the 1950s and 1960s, broadening its scope and audience when his was the first jazz instrumental album to go gold.
In December, 2009, Dave received the Kennedy Center Award for a lifetime contribution to American culture and is celebrating the achievement through his sons’ new union.
