Our Cricketers are at home this week playing against Hastings Wanderers we hope their run of luck continues. Sadly I am to report to you that the rain stopped play, as it did for the Fire Fighters Fete. Hardy souls turned up despite the early shower the side show games were popular especially the train running around the Recreation ground and for a while it was dry especially when I sipped my pimms and tried to bowl; interesting combination, however I did not do badly but the score was not enough to win. The Tenterden Swing Dancers were amazing as were the Hastings Coastal Twirlers who carried on in the next downpour with soaking wet sticks and flags. Amazingly much money was made and as ever a wonderfully successful fete all credit going to Brede Fire Fighters.
Here is last Sundays report for the Cricket.
Brede CC v Hurst Green CC
Brede made it seven undefeated games in a row at the BCG on Sunday completing the double over Hurst Green in the process. After A.R.Fryer had won the toss and chosen to field, in respect of that great Brede tradition, our heroes were soon amongst the wickets. G.Avann (10-2-38-3), from the school end, fired out three of the top order and F.Ulmann (7-4-10-1) was tighter than the latest Sports UK Basketball budget. When those two had done their business the home side didn’t let up with A.Barrett (8-2-11-4) ripping through the middle order, S.Turner up to his usual lofty standards and E.Avann producing a snorter to claim the final wicket. Special mention must be made of the fielding which was outstanding. E.Avann claimed three taxing catches, G.Dinning always a banker under a high ball bagged another and G.Bird, on debut, made a sharp chance look easy. An effort by A.Bird was the pick of the bunch though, living up to his name he flew through the air and landed gracefully with the ball safely ensconced in his right palm. No Brede match report would be complete without mention of N.McDonagh, outstanding in the field throughout, one diving save had to be seen to be believed.
Brede made short work of chasing an under par Hurst Green total of 97. Another confident opening partnership, this time worth 64 between E.Avann (36 not out and 147 undefeated runs v Hurst Green this season!) and A.Barrett (37), took a massive chunk out of the target leaving S.Fathers (12*) to finish things off in his usual sadistic style with three thunderous boundaries. Another thumping win and with players such as I.Sutton, recovering from a tasty night out and Deadbatt Gritt, still waiting eagerly in reserve.
