'Large' Southwick field fire sparks 'high volume of 999 calls' as multiple crews sent to the scene

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said it was receiving a ‘high volume of 999 calls’, regarding a ‘large field fire’ at Upper Kingston Lane in Southwick, around 2.45pm.
The fire service said two fire engines and three off-road vehicles were at the scene, adding: “Thank you to everyone who has called to make us aware, we appreciate your vigilance.”

Hide AdUpon arrival, crews were met with a grassland fire involving one acre of land.
Beaters, hose reels and a thermal imaging camera were used to extinguish the blaze, the fire service said.
As of 4pm, crews from Shoreham-by-Sea, Haywards Heath and East Sussex remained at the scene damping down.
In an update on Thursday morning, the fire service said the cause of the fire ‘remains unknown’.
