Carers at the Broyle Road care home made a huge fuss of birthday girl Kitty Downing, born Elsie Nellie May on June 27, 1920, and even set up a plastic screen, which allowed her to spend time with her family.
Ann Davis, Kitty’s only child, lives around the corner from the care home, and would normally visit her mother every day.

Hide AdKitty’s only grandchild, Emma Stokes, travelled down from Oxford with her husband Warren and Kitty’s great-granchildren Ellie, 16, and Joe, 15 – as well as their mini schnauzer Jessie – for the socially-distanced party.
Emma said: “This was a party we were unsure we could have and will never forget.”
During the family’s visit the postman arrived with Kitty’s 100th birthday card from the Queen.
