Neighbourhood wardens Paul Conroy and Michael Pearce have been dealing with rowdy and noisy behaviour in the last two months, caused by a group who congregate in Fletchers Croft car park. The wardens have worked closely with the police and anti social behaviour team on the ongoing issue and many individuals in the group have now received letters. Mr Pearce told Steyning Parish Council last Monday: “Two types of letter have been sent, the first being an advisory letter, aimed more at ‘bystanders’ of the group. “The second is a more strongly worded letter and is aimed at the individuals who we’ve witnessed taking an active role in causing anti social behaviour, for example under-age drinking.” The ‘bystanders’ were not necessarily committing an offence directly, but ran the risk of becoming involved and generally added to the dynamic of the group, he explained. Their letters were aimed at the parents, to make them aware of the people their children were socialising with and letting them know they were known to police. “Some of these individuals may be asked to attend a meeting at the police station regarding an anti social behaviour contract,” added Mr Pearce. Since the letters have been sent out, there has been a marked decrease in incidences of anti social behaviour, Mr Pearce told the parish council.
