Shoreham Port boat tours run to mark Brighton Fringe festival

It came after the success of the port’s boat tours last summer, which enabled people to see the hub of Shoreham Port from the water. The port put on four tours across the day to cater for the interests of the community. Amongst the attendees were families and clubs from the area. On-board the touring boat ‘Rossann’, visitors embarked on a cruise along the quay side of the canal. Each boat trip had a live commentary from either the port’s property manager, Tim Hague; corporate services manager, Nicky Goldsbrough and director of engineering, Tony Parker. The commentators shared their abundance of knowledge about the Port and its landmarks, for example the Power Station and variety of cargoes on the quay. Visitors were able to learn and see for themselves what goes on at the port on a daily basis. The port tour guides went into detail about the running of Shoreham Port and the different countries that use Shoreham to deliver materials such as steel, timber, sand and grain. Visitors saw the operations division in action unloading one of the many commercial vessels that visits the Port each day and were able to able to ask questions related to the cargos and where they came from. Resident Margit Latter said of the tour: “The tour was fantastic, we got to see so much and learnt a lot about the port. Chris Langley, who also attended, added: “I didn’t realise how big the Port was, it was a brilliant tour and very informative. The commentator taught us a lot about the Port and what goes on here, it was thoroughly enjoyable.” Angela Corney added: “Living here you don’t realise how much goes on, or how thriving the port is. It was really stimulating and I would definitely recommend the tour to local people and those who want to learn about the area.” Rodney Lunn, chief executive of Shoreham Port, said: “The boat tours provide the perfect opportunity to share what goes on at Shoreham Port.
