In Hastings The Refugee Buddy Project was awarded Art Council Funding to host a series of events for Refugee Week - which takes place between June 18 and 25 – and is celebrating the artistic talents of the whole community at various venues along the coast near Hastings.

“We wanted to bring together our already compassionate community and allow them the opportunity to get involved,” she said. The exhibitions showcase the talents of local people seeking refugee and displaced people as well as allowing local artists, businesses and individuals to get involved and celebrate what compassion looks like in action, here in Hastings.

From textiles to photography; pub quizzes to community feasts, most events are free, or ask for a small donation to raise money to support the work of the project.

A full calendar of what’s on will be published online so keep checking their website for the full calendar, or why not pop in to the community café at The Dove Café, 19 Bexhill Road for great coffee and homemade cakes (you won’t be sorry!) and pick up a printed leaflet giving all the details.
